BoA Officially Announces US Debut Plans

On September 2nd, 2008, a press conference was held confirming the news of her U.S. debut. SM made a statement saying, "BoA will debut and release an album in America. BoA has been going back and forth from Korea, Japan and the U.S. preparing for her debut."

BoA will hold a press conference with the slogan of 'Best of Asia, Bring on America!' (acronym of her name) on the 10th at Seoul's Imperial Palace hotel. One of Japan’s popular actress, Horikita Maki, celebrated her 20th birthday and a memorial and appreciation party, at one of Tokyo’s hotel on October 6th. Approximately 250 media showed up for Horikita Maki’s birthday to write down information and take pictures. She also said she had a private party at home with her lovely parents.

After that she was asked about boyfriends. she replied saying “I don’t have a boyfriend at the moment, but I’d like to do my best to find one from now on. I’d like to be married within 10 years. I hope I’ll still be attractive then.”

Horikita Maki is also acting a new drama called “Innocent love” and will air on October 20 on Fuji TV.

Tackey To Release Solo Single For New Musical

Hideaki Takizawa of the duo Tackey & Tsubasa will be releasing his first solo CD next year in conjunction with a new stage production he is starring in. To kick off the new year, he will be the lead in "Shinshun Takizawa Kakumei," which is being performed at the Imperial Garden Theater from January 1 to 27.

Takizawa will be in charge of singing the theme song, though the title, composer, and lyricist are still undecided. The song will apparently be released around the time of the show's run.

"Shinshun Takizawa Kakumei" is an original musical in two acts, incorporating Japanese folklore such as The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter and the legend of Urashima Taro. One highlight of the musical is Takizawa appearing on stage as an 80-year-old man.

The show will be the first New Year's Day performance at the Imperial Garden Theater after its reopening in 1966.

AKB48 losing five Team A members

Five members of AKB48's Team A have announced that they are graduating from the group. At a concert on Sunday, Tomomi Ohe, Hitomi Komatani, Hana Tojima, Rina Nakanishi, and Risa Narita shocked their fans with the news of their departure, saying that their final performances with AKB48 will be on November 23 at NHK Hall.

The five have been part of AKB48 since its formation. Their future plans have not yet been revealed, though Komatani, Tojima, and Nakanishi are signed with agencies other than AKS.

Southern All Stars members cast in drama based on their music

Last month, NTV announced a drama project called "The Naminori Restaurant," comprised of a series of 33 short dramas based on songs by Southern All Stars. It has now been revealed that the group's percussionist Hideyuki Nozawa and bassist Kazuyuki Sekiguchi will be appearing in the dramas.

The whole series stars Yo Oizumi as the owner of an unopened restaurant, and the 10-minute episodes depict various people visiting the restaurant. Nozawa plays a formerly famous man who abandoned his home to live on his own. Meanwhile, Sekiguchi's role has apparently not yet been decided.

Others appearing in the drama include Yoshinori Okada, Miho Shiraishi, Riisa Naka, Yuta Hiraoka, Hiroshi Fuse, and Mari Hoshino. The first episode airs during the November 1 episode of "Zoom In!! Saturday," while the rest of the episodes will air at random times up until November 9.

Mayumi Sada Marries

31-year-old model and actress Mayumi Sada (hana yori dango) got married on Wednesday. Her agency made an announcement by fax to the media on Saturday.

Her husband is said to be a 35-year-old multimedia creator. This past July, the relationship was reported by FRIDAY magazine, but Sada's agency has now asked that the man's identity not be publicized because he is considered a private citizen rather than a celebrity.

Sada was previously in a lengthy relationship with HIRO of the group EXILE. Many expected them to get married, but they broke up last year.

Mika Mifune to launch band with husband and baby daughter

Celebrity Mika Mifune, 26, who is the daughter of the late actor Toshiro Mifune, is launching a rock band together with her musician husband and young daughter. Mifune said the band, which will be called The TraBryu, will consist of herself, husband George Takahashi, 50, who is a vocalist for the rock band Toraburyu, and their daughter Rennon, 3. The band will sing the theme song “Birthday Party” for the kids animation film “Yes! Precure 5GoGo!” The CD single will be released on Nov 5.

Mifune said, “I wanted to make something memorable for my family. Ever since I heard that my father refused an offer to be in ‘Star Wars,’ I thought it is important to do something for children to enjoy.”

Ushirogami Hikaretai revived with AKB48 members

The '80s idol unit Ushirogami Hikaretai is being "re-formed," twenty years after its breakup. Music producer Yasushi Akimoto has assembled four girls from AKB48 to recreate the group, which he is renaming Watarirouka Hashiritai.

Ushirogami Hikaretai was formed in 1987 by Shizuka Kudo, Akiko Ikuina, and Makiko Saito, who were all members of the popular group Onyanko Club. They broke up in 1988 after releasing a string of hit singles. Akimoto, who was their producer and lyricist, is following the same formula this time, recruiting members of AKB48 for the project. The four are Mayu Watanabe, Aika Ohta, Haruka Nakagawa, and Natsumi Hirajima, all part of Team B. They also happen to be managed by Production Ogi, the same agency that represented Ushirogami Hikaretai.

Watarirouka Hashiritai already has an anime tie-in with the series "BLUE DRAGON," with their song "Aoi Mirai" being used as the new opening theme. However, their first CD single has not yet been decided, though it is scheduled for release in January through Pony Canyon.

Enka Singers Go Green In Yamanash

Fourteen enka singers, including Ayako Fuji, Hiroshi Itsuki, Kiyoshi Hikawa and Jero, will take part in a charity concert for forestation in Yamanashi Prefecture. The annual concert is organized by the Japan Association of Music Enterprises (JAMES) and is aimed at raising funds for forestation.

Fuji, who participated in a tree-planting event last week, said, “As a mother, I really feel that I must preserve the global environment for my family and future generations.”

The concert will be held Oct 29 at NHK Hall in Tokyo.

Popular group Dong bang Shin Ki, who have made their comeback after 1 year and 7 months gathered much new interest after taking a blood type based dating psychology test.

As part of the popular “Psychology break” corner of SBS Power FM’s Choi Hwa Jung’s Power Time (something like Toho-psychology in Bigeaststation I presume), the Dong Bang boys took some time to take a psychology test.

In the test, the five boys had to look at some couples, before being asked which couple they liked the most. Micky Yoochun and Hero JaeJoong, both of type O blood chose “The couple who could communicate well with each other”. Xiah Junsu and Max Changmin, both of type B blood chose “The older woman, younger boy couple.” And lastly, U-Know Yunho of blood type A chose “The couple who got closer through fighting (as in arguing, etc – like a typical drama couple where it starts off with the girl hating the guy and vice versa, but in the end they both fall in love)”.

The fact that those of the same blood type chose the same type of couple surprised and amused the Dong Bang boys, and in turn, their fans.

Micky Yoochun and Hero JaeJoong, both of O type blood explained that because they were introverts, they found it hard to approach the person they liked. However, once they like a person, they would love that person, and keep that love until the end.
Max Changmin and Xiah Junsu revealed that if they love someone, they will love them without limits quickly, however, their love would have its romantic moments and non-romantic moments – in other words, ups and downs (translated literally, it would be something like their love would be ‘hot’ but it would cool down).
From this, the members worried in a somewhat joking manner; “What if we someday disrupt Dong Bang Shin Ki’s schedule due to love?”

Lastly, U-Know Yunho revealed that once he fell in love with someone, he would push for a response from the person due to his tough personality. Due to this, many people had the response that Yunho would be the most likely to date his ideal girl.

Following the psychology corner, Dong Bang Shin Ki showed a less polished/practiced image which they didn’t show in other shows, to the delighted response of the audience. Max Changmin said, “I usually put the piece of pizza I’m eating on my hand and wait until everyone else has finished eating their pizza – and if they’ve left any, I eat that as well.” revealing an unexpected side of him. Hero JaeJoong, who the other Dong Bang Shin Ki members chose as the most fun to be around, once again showed his self-created unique vibration techniques (meaning vocal vibrations), as well as impersonations, transforming the audience into a sea of laughter.

GIRL NEXT DOOR gets drama tie-in with third single

The new Avex-produced unit GIRL NEXT DOOR is off to a great start. After seeing their debut single reach #3 in September, the group has already announced their third single, and it has been chosen as the theme song of a TV Asahi drama series this fall.

"Jonetsu no Daisho" is being used as the theme for the manga adaptation "Giragira," which stars Kuranosuke Sasaki as a middle-aged man who returns to his former job as a host in order to provide for his family.

The song, which hits stores on November 19, is GIRL NEXT DOOR's third single in three consecutive months. Their second single, "Drive Away," has been given a tie-in with a Toyota commercial, and it goes on sale next week.

American enka singer Jero, 27, on Wednesday released a new album, “15 gems,” as part of a tribute to composer Tadashi Yoshida who passed away in 1998 at the age of 77. Enka singer Yoko Nagayama, 40, and 13 other singers contribute to the album with Jero.

Jero, who sings a version of Yoshida’s popular song “Let’s meet in Yurakucho,” said, “It was difficult because its key is very low. But I think I could make it more attractive than the original one although I was very nervous. It’s a famous song that I used to listen when I was a kid.”

SMAP Reaches 10 Million In Album Sales

Last week, SMAP released their latest album "super.modern.artistic.performance," and as expected, it topped the charts at 214,000 in sales. This finally pushed their career album sales past the 10 million mark, becoming only the second vocal group to achieve that feat, after CHAGE and ASKA did it in 1993.

DOHZI-T sold 63,000 copies of his new album to land at #3. A soundtrack for the anime series "D.Gray-man" made #5, while rock band Plastic Tree found their way into the #9 spot.

"The Birthday ~Ti Amo~," a new song by EXILE, came in at #1 on the singles chart, moving more than 171,000 copies. Ayaka and Kobukuro sold nearly half that amount with their second collaborative single, while Morning Musume's cover of "Pepper Keibu" ranked in at #3.

The other new top ten releases were BREAKERZ (#6), Miliyah Kato (#9), and seiyu Shin-ichiro Miki (#10).
